Two killed as scooter crashes into electric pole in Rayagada

Gunupur: In a tragic road accident, two people were killed and another critically injured after their scooter suddenly lost control and crashed into an electricity pole near Shephali Hill in Rayagada district.
The incident occurred while the victims were returning after visiting the famous Rameshwar Shiva shrine.
The deceased has been identified as Sasmita Panda, a resident from Bhadrak and Shambhunath Das, a resident of Rajkanika area in Kendrapara district. Meanwhile, the identity of the injured person is yet to be known.
The deceased Sasmita Panda (33) is a dance instructor at the Indian Art and Culture Dance Research Centre in Gunupur. Sambhunath Das and the other injured person had came in an inspection of the dance academy.
The three had visited the Rameshwar Shiva shrine at night on a scooter and was returning when the accident occurred.

According to reports, the brakes of the scooter carrying three people suddenly failed, which caused the rider to lost control of the vehicle and they crashed into an electricity pole located on the roadside at the foothill.
Following the crash, all three injured people were rushed into the Gunupur Sub-Divisional Health Centre in a 108 ambulance.
Despite treatment, Shambhunath Das was declared dead at the health centre. Sasmita Panda was later shifted to the Paralakhemundi Medical College and Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Police have seized the scooter and launched an investigation into the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that brake failure may have caused the mishap.
