Odisha Sends NDRF, ODRAF Teams to Rescue People and Livestock in Flood-Affected Districts

Flood rescue operations in Odisha have intensified as teams from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) continue evacuating people and livestock from inundated areas, while authorities monitor improving conditions in the state’s worst-hit districts.

The state government has deployed six companies of the NDRF, supported by ODRAF and Fire Services personnel, across vulnerable districts to reinforce ongoing rescue and relief efforts. The deployment forms part of a broader response to flooding triggered by persistent rainfall and rising river levels in several parts of Odisha.

Reviewing the situation, Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari chaired a high-level meeting to assess the state’s preparedness, rescue operations and relief measures. Chief Secretary Anu Garg also attended the review, which focused on strengthening the administration’s response and ensuring timely assistance reaches affected communities.

On the ground, rescue teams have also been working to safeguard livestock alongside human evacuations. In Baleshwar district, ODRAF and NDRF personnel continue to carry out rescue operations in flood-hit areas, relocating stranded residents and animals to safer locations. Relief centres established for evacuees are providing hygienic cooked meals and essential services to ensure the immediate needs of affected families are met.
