Fresh Low Pressure likely in 24 hours, heavy rain to lash Odisha from Aug 24

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the formation of a fresh low‑pressure area over the Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclonic circulation that was lying over Myanmar and its adjoining areas yesterday has now moved. As of today, the cyclonic circulation lies over north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh. The system extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level in the atmosphere. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region in the next 24 hours.

With the formation of this process, Odisha to receive heavy to heavy rainfall between Aug 24 and Aug 27 and have also issued a warning.

Orange warning has been issued for 5 districts for heavy to very heavy rain. Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati have been alerted. Yellow alert has been issued for all the remaining districts.

Orange warning has been issued for 5 districts for heavy rain tomorrow. According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur in various places between 24th and 27th.

The impact of moderate rainfall is likely to be more in some parts of interior Odisha. North Odisha is currently affected by floods. Relief and rescue operations are underway in the areas affected by the flood. Therefore, if there is heavy rainfall again, the low-lying areas and areas with drainage problems will be kept under close watch.
