New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted that external pressure, including from the US will not affect the long-standing relationship between Russia and India. His remarks come as geopolitical tensions continue and Western countries strive to isolate Moscow by way of sanctions and diplomacy.

With reference to relations between New Delhi and Moscow, the Russian President stated that he sees India as a dependable and trusted partner. \

He pointed out the extensive nature of co-operation that has been fostered over the past decades, stressing the progression of relations between the two countries on a range of levels from trade to defense, energy, and technology.

The comments are an indication of the value Russia attributes to its relationship with India at a time of increasing uncertainty over the future of global relations, alliances, and strategic interests.

Despite global sanctions and other measures targeting Russia after the conflict in Ukraine, New Delhi has continued relations with Moscow and strengthened them simultaneously in a number of other areas with other powers.

Over the past few years, the countries have seen exponential growth in trade with India.

Energy imports are a large factor in the increasing volume of bilateral trade, but the countries continue to strengthen co-operation with regard to defense technologies, space programs, and nuclear energy, among others.

New Delhi maintains a policy of “strategic autonomy,” where its relations are diversified between several powers.

Indian analysts see this as contributing to the sustainability of good relations between New Delhi and Moscow, as well as between India and other powers such as the United States, members of the EU, and Japan.

The remarks are expected to be of great interest to strategists and policymakers.
