Bhubaneswar: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik is likely to visit flood-affected areas of Ganjam district on November 7 to assess the damage caused by Cyclone Arnab and the subsequent flooding.

As per Patnaik’s tentative itinerary, he may visit Sheragada and Hinjili, areas within his Hinjili Assembly constituency, before travelling through Asika and Sorada.

The visit comes in the aftermath of severe flooding across Ganjam district following exceptionally heavy rainfall associated with Cyclone Arnab during the last week of October.

During the visit, Patnaik is expected to assess the condition of affected residents and review the extent of damage and ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.

It is to be noted here that Rushikulya River and its tributaries, including the Badanadi, witnessed a sharp rise in water levels, inundating low-lying areas.

Asika, near the confluence of the Rushikulya and Badanadi, was among the worst-hit areas, with floodwaters entering houses and submerging streets.

Several villages in Sorada and adjoining areas also experienced flooding and waterlogging. Besides, parts of Sheragada, Hinjili and other areas of Ganjam district were also affected by the heavy rainfall.
