Assam flood death toll rises to 47, over 7 lakh affected

Assam: Assam continues to be reeling under severe flood situation with 47 people killed and more than 7.21 lakh affected in 11 districts, as per the latest bulletin by Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
Close to 900 odd villages are submerged in flood waters following heavy downpour the state has been receiving over last few days.
Five major river including Brahmaputra are flowing above the danger mark and further swelling is expected in low-lying areas.
The worst affected districts are Golaghat, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Dhemaji, Hojai, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong, Charaideo, Sivasagar and Kamrup Metro.

Rescue and relief operations are being undertaken by the NDRF, SDRF and other agencies.
Thousands of flood affected people have been evacuated and housed in relief camps and authorities are already working on providing food, drinking water, etc to them.
Weather agency India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted more rain in the Northeast region and also cautioned the people to remain on high alert to protect themselves from the flood, which has been gaining further momentum.
