5-year-old boy given poison-laced sweets by neighbour over personal dispute in Cuttack

Cuttack: In a shocking incident, a five-year-old boy has reportedly been given poison-laced’ sweets by a neighbour over longstanding dispute between two families in Cuttack. The incident took place in Bahabalpur village under Salepur police station limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district.

The child was admitted to the Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack for treatment in a critical condition and has been fighting for his life in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for over the last 17 days.

The boy’s parents has alleged that a neighbour called the minor boy to their house and offered him sweets allegedly laced with poison on May 22. The boy’s health suddenly deteriorated after consuming the sweets. He was rushed to the Sishu Bhawan hospital in a critical condition.

According to the FIR lodged by the child’s father, the act was alleged motivated by previous enmity between the two families. He suspects that the accused neighbour deliberately targeted the child as part of the ongoing dispute.

Following the complaint, police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged poisoning and are expected to collect evidence and statements from those connected to the case.

Meanwhile, the minor boy continues to receive treatment at Sishu Bhawan, one of Odisha’s leading pediatric healthcare institutions. Doctors are closely monitoring his condition as the family hopes for his recovery.
