Bhubaneswar: An 80-foot-high decorative gate erected for Gajalaxmi Puja at Club Town in Chandrasekharpur collapsed on Wednesday amid heavy rainfall in Bhubaneswar following the landfall of Cyclone Arnab.

The massive structure, which had attracted considerable attention for its impressive height, came crashing down as heavy rain lashed the Odisha capital.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

According to reports, the decorative gate and tent structure collapsed, while the clay idol of Goddess Gajalaxmi remained unaffected.

The Club Town Gajalaxmi Puja had become a major attraction in Chandrasekharpur this year, particularly because of its towering 80-foot entrance gate.

Following the collapse, a large number of local residents gathered at the spot.

The incident occurred as Bhubaneswar and neighbouring Cuttack experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday following the completion of Cyclone Arnab’s landfall process in Andhra Pradesh.

The heavy downpour is suspected to have contributed to the collapse of the temporary structure.

Meanwhile, rainfall continued to affect several areas of the twin cities in the aftermath of the cyclonic storm.
