Traffic police constable assaults taxi driver, suspended after video goes viral

A video of a Traffic Police head constable beating a taxi driver has gone viral on social media platform. The Traffic Police head constable has reportedly been suspended after the video of the incident become viral. The incident took place around 3 pm on December 14 in Paharganj area of Delhi.

According to reports, the constable started beating the taxi driver after an argument between them escalated over the issuance of a traffic challan.

In the video, the traffic constable can be seen beating the taxi driver inside the taxi while he was screaming in pain. After a while, he spares the taxi driver and exits the vehicle. Meanwhilel, the entire altercation was recorded by a bystander on his mobile phone.

The video, which later surfaced online and was widely shared, shows the officer allegedly pinning the driver down and repeatedly slapping and punching him, while people are seen passing by at the scene. The driver can also be heard crying terribly.

Police said the viral footage prompted immediate departmental action against the personnel involved.

“Taking cognisance of the video, the traffic police head constable has been placed under suspension and an inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident,” the senior officer said.
