New Delhi: Thailand keeps visa-free entry for Indian passport holders; however, it limits the same to 30 days

The Thai cabinet, in its weekly meeting Tuesday agreed to not withdraw visa free entry for Indian passport holders and would limit the duration to 30 days only.

Thai government had decided to do so after tourism arrivals from India had dipped owing to the indecisiveness over the proposed withdrawal of visa-free entry, as India is the biggest contributor to tourism to Thailand.

“Thirty days’ duration for Indian nationals will not harm the tourism sector, but the period is consistent with the average stays of the travelers.

Most tourists from India visit for 30 days, and we should allow this.

60 days were more than enough to allow people to explore different areas.

With the current scenario, limiting to 30 days is reasonable and balanced”, said the Thai tourism minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul.

Under the revised visa-free policy, Indian nationals visiting Thailand can enjoy the benefit of the exemption, but for a maximum of 30 days.

This decision has been taken to cater to both segments and at the same time not pose a risk of managing immigration and the influx of immigrants.

The country expects to reap benefits from the leisure segment in India.
