Odisha, Madhya Pradesh Join Hands to Expand Renewable Energy Projects

Odisha and Madhya Pradesh have agreed to deepen cooperation in renewable energy, with the two states signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on clean-energy development, technology, research and knowledge exchange.

The agreement was signed on Friday on the sidelines of the 7th CII International Energy Conference and Exhibition in New Delhi between the Energy Department of the Government of Odisha and the New and Renewable Energy Department of the Government of Madhya Pradesh (MPNRED). It provides a framework for joint efforts to advance renewable energy and contribute to India’s shift towards a low-carbon economy.

Under the partnership, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh will work together on solar, wind and hybrid renewable energy projects to address growing energy demand. The two states will also create mechanisms for technical exchanges covering areas such as policy formulation, regulatory practices and integration of renewable power into the grid.

The agreement also extends cooperation to research and development in emerging clean-energy technologies, including energy storage and green hydrogen. According to officials, the collaboration is intended to facilitate the sharing of technical expertise, foster innovation and aid the deployment of advanced renewable energy solutions.

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo described the MoU as an important step towards stronger cooperation between states. He said the partnership would support faster adoption of clean energy while encouraging innovation and the development of sustainable infrastructure.

Singh Deo said the two states bring complementary strengths to the partnership, creating the potential for a model of regional cooperation in the clean-energy sector. He added that the initiative could support sustainable development, strengthen energy resilience and contribute to India’s longer-term green growth objectives.

The MoU comes as part of wider efforts in India to promote greater inter-state cooperation in renewable energy and support the country’s national clean-energy and climate objectives.
