Two BSF personnel killed after Jawan colleague opens fire at headquarters in West Bengal’s Malda

Malda: Two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were killed, and another was critically injured after a fellow jawan allegedly opened fire inside the BSF Sector Headquarters in West Bengal’s Malda district.The accused was detained following the incident.

The deceased BSF personnel has been identified as Ajay Kumar Singh (51), a resident of the Manjhi area in Bihar’s Chhapra district, and Ambadas (Ambadar) Suresh Durgu (37), a resident of Gadchiroli, Maharashtra. Both of them were serving with the 71st battalion.

Another jawan, Vikas Verma, also identified as Vikas Brahm in some reports, sustained critical injuries in the firing.

The incident took place around 3:50 pm at the 119 Battalion headquarters near 17 Mile in Baishnabnagar.

The bodies of the two deceased jawans were also shifted to the same hospital for post-mortem procedures.

On being informed about the incident, senior BSF officials reached the hospital and were seen monitoring the situation.

As per preliminary inquiries the accused, identified as Constable Shivam Kumar Mishra, a resident of Chhattisgarh may have been suffering from severe mental distress. However, officials said the motive behind the firing is yet to be established and will be determined as part of the investigation.
