3 British Airways Pilots Fall Ill Mid-Air on Hyderabad-London Flight due to suspected food poisoning

Hyderabad: A British Airways flight from Hyderabad to London narrowly averted disaster after all three pilots on board fell ill mid-flight, reportedly due to suspected food poisoning.
Yet, despite the medical emergency at 30,000 feet, the remaining crew reportedly managed to land the Boeing 777 safely at London Heathrow Airport.
The incident occurred about 10.5 hours into the flight, when the aircraft was cruising over Europe. One pilot became incapacitated and required oxygen, leaving him unable to operate the aircraft.
Shortly afterward, the other two pilots also began showing symptoms consistent with food poisoning. With two pilots still able to function, the crew declared the situation to air traffic control and continued to Heathrow, where the plane landed without further incident.
Airport medical teams met the flight on arrival. The pilot who had been on oxygen was taken directly to hospital. His condition was said to have deteriorated. The other two pilots were also assessed by doctors.

British Airways confirmed it has launched an internal investigation and filed an air safety report. Medical samples from the pilots have been collected for testing.
Preliminary findings suggest the illness may be linked to food and bottled water consumed by the pilots during a layover at a Hyderabad hotel the night before departure.
The airline said it is reviewing crew accommodation and catering arrangements with its external suppliers.
Aviation authorities in both the UK and India have been notified and are monitoring the investigation.
