New Delhi: Delhi Police has handed over the alleged trespassing matter of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Sourav Das to the Crime Branch.

This development was reported on yesterday, shortly after a Special Executive Magistrate had added two more days to the judicial custody of the accused.

Ranka and Das were arrested on October 13 for attempting to go to the Jantar Mantar protest site, where they had jumped over a closed gate.

Apparently the site had been de-listed as a protest venue one day beforehand.

Both the leaders and some other CJP members were protesting against the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and also holding national flags.

Two FIRs have been registered with the Connaught Place and Parliament Street police stations for the incident, as per reports.

The investigation will now be conducted by the Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch. The allegations are yet to be proved in the court.

On the other hand, the leaders’ judicial remand was extended following the delay in their release proceedings over the acceptance of surety papers.

CJP representatives have claimed that the authorities have been intentionally stalling their release, asserting that they had reached Jantar Mantar to raise the flag of the national anthem and demand.

The police, who, for reasons of public order, applied for an extension of his detention.
