Unique Rath Yatra in Baripada: Chariot pulling today and tomorrow

Baripada: The Rath Yatra has begun in Baripada, known as the ‘Second Srikhetra’. As per traditional rituals, only the Pahandi ceremony was held on the first day. The Chaturdha Murti – Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Sudarshan – have now ascended the chariots to give darshan to devotees. The pulling of chariots will continue for two days, today and tomorrow.
As per information, today, after Lord Balabhadra’s chariot ‘Taladhwaja’ is pulled to the Mausi Maa Temple, the pulling of Devi Subhadra’s chariot ‘Darpadalana’ will begin. Subhadra’s chariot will halt in front of the Town Police Station.
Similarly, tomorrow, Subhadra’s chariot will be pulled from in front of the Town Police Station to the Shree Mandira. Following this, the pulling of Lord Jagannath’s chariot ‘Nandighosa’ will commence.
The pulling of chariots will begin at 2:30 PM. Elaborate police deployment has been made to ensure the Rath Yatra is conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner.

On the 18th July, Lord Jagannath will proceed towards the Mausi Maa Temple. In the ‘Second Srikhetra’ of Baripada, the Ghosha Yatra is held over two days.
This will be followed by the Bahuda Yatra or return car festival. The administration has made extensive preparations for the smooth and peaceful conduct of both the Rath Yatra and Bahuda Yatra. The entire city has been decorated in vibrant colors.
As per reports, no heavy vehicles will be allowed to ply on the Bada Danda during the Rath Yatra. Heavy vehicles will be diverted through alternate routes. For this, the Police have issued a route chart.
To maintain law and order from Rath Yatra to Bahuda Yatra, over 120 police officers and personnel along with 28 platoons of police force have been deployed, said Mayurbhanj SP Varun Guntupalli.
