50 stranded in Chilika lake as ferry develops mechanical failure

Chilika: Atleast 50 people were stranded in middle of Chilika lake as the passenger ferry developed mechanical failure. The incident took place while the launch was enroute from Balugaon to Krushnaprasad Gada in Puri district.

As per reports, the launch was travelling from Balugaon to Krushnaprasad Gada with over 50 passengers on board when it got malfunctioned.

Panic gripped the passengers as the launch got stranded in middle of the Chilika.

On being informed about the incident, the local fishermen rushed with three boats to the middle of Chilika lake.

After a long time, the lauch was brought back safely to the shore. There was no casualties or injuries reported.

The incident has again sparked concerns over the maintenance and safety standards of ferry services across Chilika.
