Over 3.7 Million People Visit Char Dham Yatra, 198 Deaths Reported

New Delhi: According to official data released by the State Emergency Operation Centre, over 37 lakh pilgrims have visited Uttarakhand’s Char Dham and associated pilgrimage sites since the annual yatra began in April.

During the same period, 198 fatalities have been reported among devotees taking part in the pilgrimage.

The latest SEOC report stated that a total of 37.35 lakh pilgrims had visited the shrines till Thursday.

Among the four Char Dham temples, Kedarnath Dham recorded the highest number of visitors. Since its doors opened on April 22, the shrine has welcomed 12.61 lakh pilgrims.

Badrinath Dham, which opened on April 23, received 11.67 lakh devotees.

Gangotri temple recorded a footfall of 6.17 lakh pilgrims, while 5.83 lakh devotees visited the Yamunotri shrine. In addition, Sri Hemkund Sahib attracted 1.05 lakh pilgrims during the ongoing season.

The report also noted that 5,795 pilgrims undertook the trek to the Gaumukh glacier, the source region of the River Ganga.

On Thursday alone, 42,921 pilgrims arrived at the various pilgrimage sites. Authorities also recorded the movement of 4,984 vehicles on the yatra routes during the day.

Since the start of the pilgrimage season, around 3.54 lakh vehicles have travelled on the Char Dham Yatra routes, reflecting the large-scale participation of devotees from across the country.

Officials continue to monitor pilgrim movement and manage arrangements along the routes to ensure the smooth conduct of the yatra.

According to reports, Uttarakhand has recorded 198 deaths among pilgrims since April 19 during the ongoing Char Dham Yatra. Of the total deaths, 195 were due to health-related complications, and three deaths were due to natural causes.

Kedarnath recorded the maximum of 95 deaths among the pilgrimage sites. Badrinath recorded 59 deaths, followed by Yamunotri (26) and Gangotri (18).
