Odisha Vigilance nabs MGNREGA Assistant of PD Watershed Office while taking bribe

Kalahandi: Odisha vigilance nabbed Priyanka Jena, the MGNREGA Assistant of the office of PD Watershed of Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi while demanding and taking bribe today.

The vigilance sleuths nabbed Jena while he was taking a bribe of Rs 35,000 from a beneficiary in lieu of bill amount (Rs 2.68 Lakhs) released towards execution of Farm Ponds under MGNREG scheme.

Jena reportedly demanded bribe Rs 35,000 from the beneficiary towards the bill amount already released in his favour and for clearing the pending bill amount.

She also threatened the beneficiary unless the demanded bribe Rs 35,000 was paid to her, she wouldn’t facilitate the release of the pending bill amount.

When several approaches made by the beneficiary went unattended, he reported the matter to vigilance authorities alleging harassment by the accused MGNREGA Assistant.

Upon receiving the information, a team of Odisha Vigilance, today, nabbed accused Jena while taking bribe Rs 35,000 from the beneficiary.  The entire tainted bribe money Rs 35,000 has been recovered and seized from Jena.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going at two locations of Jena from Disproportionate Assets (DA) angle.

In this connection, Koraput Vigilance PS Case No 09/2026, U/s 7PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. Investigation is in progress against the accused MGNREGA Assistant. Detailed report follows.
