Bhubaneswar: Irate locals thrash two youths for allegedly misbehaving with girls; 1 dead, another critical

Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a youth died while another sustained critical injuries after being beaten-up by a group of angry people for allegedly misbehaving with two girls in Balianta area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar today.

The deceased youth has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Swain of Adaspur area, while the injured is Om Prakash Rout.

According to reports, Soumya Ranjan and Om Prakash were reportedly going on a bike hit the scooty on which two girls were traveling at Bhingarpur under Balianta Police station limits.

Following the collision between the two vehicles, a heated argument erupted among them and later both Soumya Ranjan and Om Prakash allegedly assaulted the two girls before trying to flee from the spot.

However, some passersby and locals, on hearing the cries of the girls for help, chased Soumya Ranjan and Om Prakash and on a fit of anger tied their hands and legs with bamboo sticks after over powering them and brutally assaulted them.

Later, both of them were taken to the Capital Hospital for treatment, where Soumya Ranjan, is said to a personnel with the Government Railway Police (GRP), was declared dead by the doctors, while Om Prakash is undergoing treatment in a critical condition.

On being informed, Balianta Police reached the spot and started a detailed investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, family members of deceased Soumya Ranjan lodged a complaint seeking action against the individuals who beat him to death.

On the other hand, the girls, who also allegedly sustained injuries following the incident, have filed a complaint at the Balianta Police station over the incident.
