Berhampur Constable Ashutosh Mrudangia passes away from burn injuries at AIIMS Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Berhampur constable Ashutosh Mrudangia, who was receiving treatment for serious burn injuries at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, died on Friday morning, hospital authorities reported.

As per reports, Ashutosh had sustained about 80% burn injuries and was rushed to the Burns Department of the AIIMS for special treatment.

His condition worsened in the last few days, forcing the medical team to put him on the ventilator. He later died of burn injuries on Friday morning.

The case garnered a lot of attention after it was alleged that the constable was set on fire by a family dispute.

Sandhyarani and her brother were accused by the initial complaints, of dousing him in petrol and setting him on fire.

The investigators are also checking statements, which were allegedly made by Mrudangia prior to his death. The victim had reportedly given two statements naming Sandhyarani as involved in the incident.

With the death of Ashutosh, the case will become more legally complicated. Police will now expedite their investigation and take all evidence into consideration such as witness statements, statements made by the victim, and the report of the forensic department.

The young constable’s death has sent shock waves across the police department as well as the district community.
