3 Women Journalists alleges sexual harassment by Delhi Police during Jantar Mantar protest

New Delhi: A report regarding three women journalists alleging sexual harassment by Delhi police during Jantar Mantar protest in Delhi has come up yesterday.

The protest was held with a demand of resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

In the alleged complaint, one journalist says that she was inappropriately touched and pushed while she was covering the police action during the protests at the spot. The other complaint included the alleged misconduct by a police officer while she was covering the detention of a protester.

However these complaints have not been independently verified yet. After the incident, the journalists approached to the police to speak and file a complaint regarding the incident.

As per reports, the Delhi Police said that the complaints received by the New Delhi district police have been transferred to the Crime Branch for a fair and impartial inquiry.

The incident has raised concerns over treatment of journalists while covering protests and police action in the national capital and has also urged Delhi Police to take immediate action on the complaint.

Further investigation into this matter is underway.
