India urges de-escalation at UN security council

New Delhi: India has condemned the latest attacks on merchant vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz and said that the resurgence of hostilities in West Asia is deeply concerning.

The Indian Ambassador to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, has called on all parties in a UN Security Council meeting to immediately de-escalate tensions and revert to dialogue.

India made it known that attacks on civilian shipping and critical infrastructure would have to stop immediately and passage through all international waterways be restored unimpeded by any parties in compliance with all provisions of international law.

The Strait of Hormuz is a significant global trade and energy route, crucial for both India’s energy security and trade.

The ambassador also acknowledged that there were several Indian nationals affected in the latest attacks on ships in the West Asian region.

Sadly, one Indian national has lost his life, while several have sustained injuries and one remains unaccounted for.

Asserting India’s consistent position, he advocated for diplomacy and dialogue and maintained that peace and stability of West Asia remain of utmost importance not just to the regional, but to the international community.
