Rape at gunpoint in Bhubaneswar: OSCW registers suo motu case, seeks report from DCP

Bhubaneswar: Taking a serious note of the rape at gunpoint incident which occurred on Wednesday in Behera Sahi area of ​​Nayapalli of Bhubaneswar, the Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW) has reportedly registered a suo motu case over the incident and sought reports from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Saravana Vivek M.

OSCW member Urmila Mohapatra today visited the Nayapalli Police station and met the rape victim. During the meeting, the rape victim reportedly narrated her ordeal before the OSCW member. She also met the Nayapalli Police station IIC and inquired about the development of the case.

This apart, the OSCW registered a suo motu case over the incident and sought a detailed report from the Bhubaneswar DCP within 15 days.

Meanwhile, the Commissionerate Police has intensified its investigation by forming four different teams under the leadership of Bhubaneswar DCP. They are trying to identify the accused and trace his movements—determining where he came from, the route he took after the incident, and his current hiding place.

Police also have recorded the victim’s statement in court in the presence of a magistrate under Section 183 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

It is to be noted here that an unidentified person entered the rented house of the the 26-year-old woman when the door of the house was open and sexually assaulted her on Wednesday night.
