Lt General Dhiraj Seth appointed as next Chief of Army Staff

New-Delhi: The Government has appointed Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, presently serving as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, as the next Chief of the Army Staff.
He will assume office on June 30 following the retirement of the current Army Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, Lt Gen Seth was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986.
During a military career spanning almost 40 years, he has served across operational, strategic, capability development and institutional roles, playing a key role in enhancing the Indian Army’s combat readiness and driving its long-term transformation.

His command assignments include an Armoured Regiment in the Desert Sector, an Armoured Brigade in the Western Theatre, and a Counter-Insurgency Force in Jammu & Kashmir, according to the statement by the defence ministry.
After his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant General, he commanded the Sudarshan Chakra Corps and later served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Delhi Area, overseeing several major national and international engagements.
Lt Gen Seth subsequently served as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of both the South Western Command and the Southern Command, earning the rare distinction of leading two operational commands.
