Man and his 28-year-old son killed by lightning strikes in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: In an unfortunate incident, a man and his 28-year-old son were killed by lightning strikes at Balipada village in Dhenkanal district on Sunday.

One Santosh Dhuri and his son Satyanarayan Dhuri were planting paddy saplings on their paddy field this afternoon. In the meantime, heavy rainfall along with strong lightnings occurred in the area as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD)).

Unfortunately, one of the lightnings struck them leaving them critically injuried. Immediately, both of Santosh and Satyanarayan were rushed to the Kamakhyanagar Hospital for treatment. But unfortunately, doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Later, the bodies were sent for postmortem and the local police was informed about the deaths of the father-son. Their bodies will be handed over to the family members after completion of the postmortem, said sources.

A pall of gloom descended on the on the Balipada village following the untimely and unfortunate deaths of the father-son due to lightning strikes.

Meanwhile, locals requested the state government and district collector to provide adequate compensation to the bereaved family members as Santosh and Satyanarayan were the only earning members of the family.
