Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court has sought the Odisha government’s response on a petition filed by Ollywood actor and former MP Anubhav Mohanty seeking quashing of a criminal case filed by actress Barsha Priyadarshini.
Hearing a Special Leave Petition filed by Mohanty, a bench of Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice Vijay Bishnoi issued notice to the state government.
The high-profile marital dispute between Mohanty and Priyadarshini has now reached the apex court.
On January 30 this year, the Orissa High Court had rejected Mohanty’s plea to quash the case and upheld the charges framed by the trial court. Mohanty has challenged that order in the Supreme Court.

The case dates back to December 19, 2020, when Barsha Priyadarshini lodged an FIR at Purighat Police Station in Cuttack. She alleged that on December 18, 2020, Mohanty and two associates locked her in a room at their Nandisahi residence in Cuttack. The complaint also accused them of mental harassment, forcibly entering her room to shoot videos, and outraging her modesty.
Based on the FIR, the trial court framed charges under IPC Sections 498A, 509, 341, 294, and 506.In his petition, Mohanty has claimed the criminal case is “completely baseless” and was filed only to harass him and exert pressure in their ongoing divorce battle.
