Puri Police takes major cyber action before Rath Yatra 2026, takes down 40 fake hotel websites and emails

Puri: The upcoming Rath Yatra 2026will see lakhs of devotees coming to Puri from different parts of the country and abroad. In this context, keeping in view the possibility of increase in cyber fraud in the name of hotel booking, the police have kept a close watch on cyber fraud.

During this investigation, several fake websites running in the name of various hotels in the city were identified and removed. Cyber ​​criminals were cheating devotees and tourists in the name of hotel booking through these fake websites and illegally charging money.

Police said that fake website, email running, hotel name, phone number and email ID were being used illegally on these sites. Along with this, customers were being contacted through different fake e-mail IDs.

The police immediately took strict action and successfully took down all the related fake websites. This can greatly prevent the possibility of future fraud through this website. In this incident, SP Puri Prathik Singh said, “The first priority of the police is the safety of the devotees during the ride.” The entire police is following zero tolerance policy against cyber crimes and strict action against such criminals will continue in the coming days.

Meanwhile Puri Police gave the following cautionary advice to all devotees and tourists:

  • Check the authenticity of the website before booking a hotel. Book only through official website. Do not book after seeing extremely cheap offers or unnatural discounts. Please check with the hotel directly before booking. Do not send money to unknown bank account, UPI or QR Code.
