Mumbai: Gujarat on Tuesday launched the 24th edition of ‘Kanya Kelavani and Shala Praveshotsav’, its flagship school enrolment campaign initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Chief Minister of the state.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the three-day drive from BN High School in Vadnagar — the alma mater of PM Modi.
During the event, CM Patel facilitated admissions for students from Balvatika to Class 11.
The statewide campaign aims to enrol nearly 28.58 lakh children across 38,400 government and grant-in-aid schools in Gujarat.

Launched in 2003, Shala Praveshotsav focuses on 100% enrolment in primary schools, reducing dropout rates, and promoting girls’ education through ‘Kanya Kelavani’.
As part of the drive, ministers, IAS/IPS officers, and senior officials visit villages and schools to personally welcome children, interact with parents, and distribute education kits.
This year’s campaign will run from June 24 to June 26, covering all 33 districts. Officials will monitor enrolment targets, infrastructure upgrades, and learning outcomes during school visits.
The initiative is credited with significantly improving Gujarat’s enrolment and retention rates over the past two decades.
