Puri: Picnic turns tragic as student dies, teacher critical after drowning in sea

Puri: Picnic of a group of students turned tragic as one of them died while their teacher became critical after drowning in Beleswar sea beach in Puri district today.
A group of students of a coaching centre of Cuttack City had reportedly gone to the sea beach for a picnic. They were staying in a farm house near the sea beach.
After participating in dance, song and other competitions between them, the students along with their four teachers accompanied by lifeguards had gone to the Beleswar sea beach for bathing this afternoon.
However, one of the students named Shilpashree Sahoo of Baniasahi of Buxi Bazar in Cuttack, drowned in the sea due to rip currents. Despite all the efforts of the lifeguards and her teacher Biswajit Sahoo, she could not be saved as a result she died on the spot.

Teacher Biswajit, in his attempt to rescue Shilpashree, also got drowned and became critical. But he was rescued by others.
Later, the local police was informed about Shilpashree’s death and her body was sent to the Puri district headquarter hospital for postmortem. Her family members were also intimated about her tragic death.
While police have started an investigation into the matter, the teacher Biswajit is still undergoing treatment at the government hospital.
Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended in the locality following the heart-wrenching incident.
