Fearing arrest, Youth commits suicide in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: For the fear of getting arrested, a young man allegedly died by suicide in Baliratnapur village under Motanga Police Station limits in Dhenkanal district early on Friday morning, shortly after returning with a 13-year-old girl who had gone missing earlier this month.

The deceased, Benupani Sahu, a resident of Nimidha village under Motanga police limits of Dhenkanal.

As per reports, minor girl’s father had lodged a complaint on April 8 in Angul, stating that his minor daughter had been missing since the evening of April 1.

Based on the complaint, Angul police registered a case under Section 137(2) BNS, and started a probe into the matter.

During investigation, it came to light that the minor girl had left for Mumbai with Benupani Sahu. The police called the parents of the accused for questioning.

Benupani returned to his native village along with the minor girl from Mumbai. Shortly afterwards, he allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself. His body was recovered hanging from the room.

Further investigation is underway.
