Visakhapatnam: At least 8 workers lost their lives and several others were injured in a fire at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Monday, June 8, 2026, after molten steel spilled during operations.

According to reports, the accident occurred at the Steel Melting Shop-2 (SMS-2) and STC-3 facility when a ladle carrying molten steel at around 1,600°C collapsed during a lifting operation. The superheated metal spilled onto workers present in the area, triggering a fire and panic inside the plant.

Emergency response teams and CISF fire personnel rushed to the spot to douse the flames and rescue trapped workers. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, with several undergoing treatment for severe burn injuries.
