Crime Branch arrests another accused in Balianta murder case, arrest number rise to 13

Bhubaneswar: The CID Crime Branch, Odisha, which has been entrusted by the Government of Odisha with the investigation of the incident that occurred on May 7 in the Bhingarpur-Kaja area under Balianta Police Station, has achieved another significant breakthrough with the arrest of one more accused.

While probing CID CB Police Station Case No. 06/2026 dated 09.05.2026, arising out of Balianta PS Case No. 221/2026, registered under Sections 103(1)/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and cting on substantial evidence collected during the course of investigation, a Crime Branch team apprehended Chinmay Mohanty @ Bubu (33 years), son of Late Chittaranjan Mohanty, resident of Balikanthia, PO-Benupur, PS-Balianta, District-Khordha, from the Singla area of Balasore district on the night of 31.10.2026.

Following his apprehension, the accused was formally arrested on November 1 at 10.30 AM in connection with the case.

So far, a total of 12 accused persons were in judicial custody in connection with the case. The newly arrested accused, Chinmay Mohanty @ Bubu, is being forwarded to the Court of the SDJM, Bhubaneswar, today.

The CID Crime Branch is pursuing the investigation on a priority basis. Further efforts are underway to identify, trace and apprehend other persons involved in the incident.
