Agra road cave-in sparks protest by SP leader

Agra: Heavy rains at Agra’s Kamla Nagar brought down a major chunk of a road, carving out a gaping pit in it, which officials immediately shut to traffic.

However, no casualties were reported due to the event.

Soon the road cave-in also triggered a political protest when a Samajwadi Party leader, Nitin Kohli, descended the crater using a ladder to protest the state of civic amenities.

Speaking about Agra, also known as the ‘Taj city’, Kohli referred it as “Gaddha Nagari”, which means ‘city of potholes’.

He also pointed to a crater, describing it as “road to Pataal”, and what he described as consecutive road collapses in the monsoon season.

This event occurs at a time when road infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh is facing major concerns, including recent damage and erosion in parts of the recently launched Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway.
