Delhi Newlywed woman’s mother alleged belt assault, dowry before death

New Delhi: In a tragic incident in which a newlywed woman died after falling from third floor has been turned into a dowry and harassment case. The mother has claimed that she faced continuous harassment over dowry.
The incident took place on Saturday at the B-Block of the NDMC Flats in Palika Kunj in Delhi’s Lodhi Colony.
The deceased, identified as 28-year-old woman, Akriti, who was living in Pushp Vihar and worked as a sales executive at a private company in Chhatarpur. The alleged husband has been identified as Arastu and his sister Augustika along with other family members.
As per police, she was found with critical injuries after the alleged fall and was immediately taken to the AIIMS. However, doctors declared her brought dead.
Akriti’s family members have filed a dowry harassment complaint against Arastu and her in-laws alleging they were demanding Rs 20 lakh after the marriage.
The mother of the victim in the lodged complaint has alleged that Akriti was pressurized by her in-laws and husband to quit her job and have a child. She also added that her daughter has faced continuous harassment for dowry of Rs 20 Lakh.
As per reports, she alleged that his son-in-law’s behaviour completely changed towards Akriti. She was also barred from going to her maternal home or calling and talking with her family.
Akriti on call with mother reportedly said that she was beaten by belt because her phone was on silent and didn’t pick it up when Arastu was outside.

Anu sutar, the mother also claimed that she tried to solve the issue between the two for which she also called Arastu’s father and asked him to look into the matter.
After the call, Anu received call from Akriti during which she asked her mother for the need to call her in-laws and tell them about the matter.
On July 4, Akriti called her mother and informed that she has left for her work but her phone went off after that. Anu on that day gets call from in-laws place asking whether she is the one who has hid Akriti in their house.
The family learned about Akriti’s death when Police called them and asked the family to arrive at the police station.
A case has been registered under Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Investigation into this matter is still ongoing and more information will be revealed after that.
As per reports, after the post mortem examination it was learnt that a deformity of the left distal arm with a laceration over the dorsal aspect.
Further investigation into this matter is underway.
