11 killed, 50 rescued after fire breaks out at elderly care home in Sri Lanka

According to the police ten people were found dead at the elderly care home while another succumbed to injuries at hospital in Sri Lanka.

Colombo: In a tragic fire accident at an elderly care home, eleven people lost their lives in Sri Lanka. The incident took place at around 5:30 pm in Anguruwatota.

It is being said that seven people have sustained injuries in the incident. 50 people were rescued from the premises without any casualties.

The injured persons were rushed to the hospital and are currently being medically treated there.

Following the incident, police and fire vehicles rushed to the spot and doused off the fire successfully.

As per reports, the initial inquiry says during the fire incident a gas cylinder exploded aiding the fire to expand rapidly.

The exact reason behind the fire incident is yet to be determined. The rescued persons have been temporarily accommodated at a nearby school till arrangement for safer place is being made for them.

Further investigation into this matter is underway.
