Odisha CM Mohan Majhi Attends 77th State-Level Van Mahotsav In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the 77th State-Level Van Mahotsav in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday and highlighted Odisha’s progress in forest conservation and green cover expansion.

Addressing the gathering, CM Majhi said Odisha ranks 3rd in the country in forest protection and green cover creation. In the last two years, the state has added 558 sq km of forest cover.

“Development and environment are not opposed to each other, they are complementary,” the Chief Minister said.

Key Announcements

Ama Jungle Yojana: A livelihood-based program worth Rs 1,488 crore has been launched for restoration of degraded forests.

Green belts along rivers: Green belts will be created along riverbanks. Lakhs of saplings will be planted on the sides of the Mahanadi and 7 other major rivers.

Lightning protection: 17.90 lakh palm trees were planted last financial year to provide protection from lightning strikes.

CAMPA target: Under the CAMPA scheme, the target for next year is plantation on more than 20,562 hectares of forest land.

New employment scheme: From July 1, a joint Central-State initiative ‘Viksit Bharat – Rojgar Guarantee and Livelihood Mission (Rural)’ has been launched, which will link plantation drives with employment generation.

On the occasion, the CM presented the State-Level Chief Minister’s Award of Rs 2 lakh each to:  Jereng Budhipahad Forest Protection Committee of Angul  Gudgudia Environment Development Committee (EDC) of Mayurbhanj for their notable contribution to forest protection and afforestation.
