Police encounter in Rourkela: 2 dreaded criminals shot, watch

Rourkela: In swift action, Rourkela Police shot and injured two dreaded criminals accused in the Tufan Bindhani murder case during an encounter on Saturday. Three other associates were also arrested. The encounter comes days after the murder on Tuesday.

Police chased and fired at the accused who were absconding after the killing in Sector-7 police station area of the steel city.

The encounter took place early Saturday morning near a forest by Jhirpani river. The two criminals injured in police firing have been identified as Susant Nayak alias Nonda and Chinu Haripa. Both were admitted to Rourkela Government Hospital for treatment.

Following the encounter, police arrested three other associates — Rohit Mukhi, Rohit Haripa, and Johnson Nag — who were hiding in different parts of the city.

On Tuesday, Tufan Bindhani of Rameswar Palli was called behind a school in Sector-6 and hacked to death with axes and a farsa. Another person was critically injured in the attack.

Police have seized 2 axes, 1 farsa, 1 pistol with magazine, bullets, empty cartridges, and 3 mobile phones used in the crime. The arrested accused have several previous criminal cases registered against them.

Murder Tuesday, Encounter Saturday — Rourkela Police’s big action against the absconding criminals has drawn attention in the steel city.
