One killed, several injured due to communal violence in Nepal, indefinite restriction imposed

New Delhi: A communal violence took place in parts of Sunsari district of Nepal that resulted in death of one person and injuries to several people on Sunday. Indefinite restriction was imposed after the violence by the local administration.

The incident took place near the India-Nepal border over an argument between groups who have different spiritual beliefs. Both the groups were using loudspeakers and religious flags during separate events, argument broke out and then stone-pelting and violent clashes.

Following the incident, security forces intervened between the two groups to bring the situation under control.

The victims of the incident are identified as 24-year-old Om Prakash Mehta, who lost his life and around 22 people, including 13 security personnel were injured in the violence.

The indefinite restrictions were imposed in five market areas of Sunsari. The restriction means that not more than four people can gather together, hold protests, and do public meetings until another notice is issued.

Security has also been increased in the area to prevent any further violence.
