New Delhi: An Indian farmer from Assam, who was allegedly abducted by some miscreants on Sunday, was brought back safely to India on Tuesday.

The incident took place in the South Salmara-Mankachar district of Assam when the Indian farmer had gone near the international border, cutting grass in his fields as it was his regular agricultural activity.

As per the report, he was allegedly taken by some miscreants from Bangladesh, and he crossed over the international border into that country.

The Border Security Force (BSF) was subsequently informed by the local authorities, who informed the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

Later, after concerted efforts by both the border guarding forces of the countries, the farmer was traced out and rescued, and later handed over to the BSF by the BGB through formal border mechanisms.

The latest rescue of an Indian citizen will add emphasis on border security cooperation, in which BSF and BGB agreed on many issues, like better border patrolling in specific vulnerable areas and the sharing of information to combat illegal migration.

The incident also points out the difficulties being faced by the residents near the border areas, where in most of the villages, people rely on their farmland to support their livelihood, which often lies near the international borders.
