Watch: Balasore hotel charges ₹1,400 for Fish leaf roast, bill dispute reaches police

Balasore: Four youths spent almost five hours in the police station as the hotel owner charged 1400 for one piece of fish leaf roast in an argument that followed a meal.

According to a complaint lodged by the four, they had gone to a hotel on Friday evening near Kacheri in Balasore and had asked the owner about the price of fish.

The hotel owner informed that one plate would be of ₹100.

While they had a meal, the owner served fish leaf roast with the meal which they former assumed as part of their order.

When they received the bill it was for ₹400 on food they initially ordered and ₹1400 for the fish leaf roast which totals to ₹1800.

Following which a wordy spat began between the hotel owner and the four.

Later, they went to the local police station where the owner was called.

Following almost five hours of negotiation at the police station, from the afternoon to night the hotel owner agreed to charge ₹1000 for the fish.

In the meantime, the hotel owner who does not even have a rate chart was reportedly told by the hotel staff during the inquiry that he had no right to do so.

The matter was eventually settled after the customers paid ₹500.
