Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar’s death case to be probed by 3-member SIT

Agartala: Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar’s mysterious death case will be investigated by a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by Tripura Police.
As per report, Dhankar was found dead in his office at the Police Headquarters in Agartala on July 20. Initially it was said that it could be a self-killing case.
The special investigation team which is going to probe the Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar’s death case is directed to submit weekly progress reports.
The SIT will be led by West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak. It will probe how DGP died, collect necessary evidence to come to a conclusion.

Anurag Dhankar was a 1994-batch IPS officer and became Tripura’s DGP in May 2025. Dhankar worked in several senior police positions and also worked with the CBI during which he probed the Nirav Modi bank fraud case.
Following the incident, DGP was rushed to a hospital for medical treatment as he was alive by then, but he was pronounced dead by the doctors at the hospital. The post mortem has been conducted but it couldn’t determine the exact cause of death.
Investigation is still underway looking all angles in this case.
Further investigation into this matter is underway.
