Escape attempt suspected after multiple inmates fall ill at Jharpada Jail

Bhubaneswar: The sudden illness  of multiple inmates within the Jharpada Jail premises have put a question on a conspiracy involving an escape plan from the prison premises.

Authorities are probing the possibility that the mysterious illness of a number of inmates was a premeditated plan to facilitate their escape.

While the jail officials are checking for causes including food poisoning, drinking of intoxicants or side effects of the suspected food contamination, they are not ruling out that the inmates were given unconscious as a part of an alleged jail break.

As per reports, a high level probe team will arrive at the facility to unmask the conspiracy.

To uncover the truth, a team of officials led by the Jail Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) will visit the jail tomorrow, said sources.

The high-level committee will include several senior police officials, added the sources.

Security gas been beefed up at the hospital campuses, where the prisoners are undergoing treatment.

The Commissionerate police will undertake a detailed investigation of the incident post completion of primary reports by the team.
