Gajapati: Woman Arrested for Duping of Rs 1.38 Crore

Paralakhemundi: Paralakhemundi police in Gajapati district of Odisha on Saturday have arrested a woman, identified as Jhili Sahu, for allegedly cheating several women of Rs 1.38 crore after remaining absconding for nearly one and a half years.

According to police, the accused had promised high returns and assured money-back guarantees to lure women into investing. After collecting the money, she went into hiding.

Once the victims realized they had been duped, around 25 women filed written complaints at Paralakhemundi Police Station. Police registered a case and launched an investigation, recording witness statements and collecting bank transaction details.

During the probe, police found large sums of money transacted in the accounts of the accused and her family members. Funds taken from the victims had been transferred to multiple accounts, officials said.

Police have also traced some movable assets in the names of Jhili Sahu and her mother.  Paralakhemundi Police Station officials confirmed that two other similar cheating cases are already registered against the accused. She was arrested today and forwarded to court.
