Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Sunday alleged that nearly 27 lakh voters have been removed during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, claiming the actual number is much higher than the officially stated 20 lakh.
At a press conference, senior BJD leaders said the electoral website earlier showed 3,40,72,744 voters. According to the party, the number later fell to 3.33 crore at the start of the SIR exercise and has now come down to 3.13 crore in the draft electoral roll.
The party claimed that around 7 lakh voter names are missing and alleged that in 75 Assembly constituencies, more than 10,000 voters have been removed from the rolls.

BJD Senior Vice President Debi Mishra and General Secretary Bijay Nayak said the SIR process has become too complicated and has created confusion at the grassroots level. They also reminded the Odisha CEO of his earlier assurance that no genuine voter would be removed.
The party urged the Election Commission to simplify the revision process, ensure transparency, and make sure that only ineligible names are deleted while all eligible voters remain on the electoral rolls.
