Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Likely in Western Odisha, Red Alert Issued for 4 Districts

Bhubaneswar: A deep depression moving across North Odisha is expected to track west-northwest over North Odisha and North Chhattisgarh in the next 24 hours. Under its influence, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Western Odisha.

A red warning has been issued for 4 districts today — Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sambalpur.

Orange alerts have been issued for 13 districts and yellow alerts for 11 districts.

The intensity of rainfall is likely to decrease from tomorrow. IMD has issued an orange warning only for Bargarh district for the following day.

Seven districts in Western Odisha remain under yellow alert. Rain is likely to continue across the state till August 3.

Rivers in Spate, Flood-Like Situation in Several Districts

Due to the low-pressure-induced rain, water levels in several major rivers across Odisha are rising rapidly. Flood-like situations have emerged in many areas.

The situation is reported to be critical in Angul, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts. In view of waterlogging and adverse weather conditions, district authorities have ordered closure of schools in several affected districts.

The administration has advised people in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and follow official advisories.
