Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Mahila police has arrested a youth on charges of cheating a girl on the promise of marriage after coming in contact with her on the social media platform.

The arrested youth has been identified as Jitendra Kumar Raj of Korei police station area in Jajpur district.

As alleged by the girl, Jitendra met her on an online platform two years ago and gradually developed a love relationship with her. After dating her for some time and winning her trust, he reportedly took her to several hotels and had physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage.

However, recently when the girl asked Jitendra to inform his family members about their relationship and marry her, he allegedly forsook her and fled somewhere.

After repeated failed attempts on phone and finding no other option, the girl lodged a police complaint at the Bhubaneswar Mahila police station seeking action against Jitendra and justice for herself.

Taking a serious not of the girl’s complaint, police swung into action and arrested the accused, said sources adding that he will be forwarded to the court after completion of his medical examination and all other legal process.
