Bhubaneswar: As in previous years, the KIIT Transport Department celebrated Dussehra on the KIIT University campus. Achyuta Samanta, the founder of KIIT and KISS, attended the event, participated in the rituals, and performed the purnahuti (the concluding offering of the yagya).
Samanta also extended his best wishes for the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja to all the staff members of the Transport Department.
Recalling the early days of the department, the founder noted that the KIIT Transport Department, which began with just a single Ambassador car, now operates a fleet of over 550 vehicles.
Furthermore, KIIT is one of the few educational institutions in India that maintains its own dedicated transport and security departments, with staff members in these units receiving the same benefits as other employees.

On this occasion, Samanta commended the staff for their role in the efficient management of these departments. Ensuring the safe transportation of all students—from the youngest to the oldest—is a significant responsibility. He expressed his gratitude to the transport department staff for consistently discharging this duty with great diligence.
Dr. Achyuta Samanta announced the construction of barracks to accommodate the unmarried drivers working in the KIIT transport department. He stated that this initiative has been undertaken for the convenience and welfare of the staff.
On this occasion, every year, he performs a ritual worship of the Hero Honda Sleek motorcycle—the very bike with which he started KIIT—every year during Dussehra, and takes it for a ride. Today, too, he worshiped his old motorcycle and rode it.
