Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) faced a setback in its political plan in Punjab on Sunday as two of its MLAs Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra and Chetan Singh Jouramajra resigned from the party’s primary membership ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
The resignations came a day after AAP had released the first list of 40 candidates for the upcoming polls where not a single legislator was included.
Pathanmajra, who has been the MLA from the Sanaur constituency, handed over his resignation to AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.
Jouramajra, the MLA from Samana and a former Cabinet minister, said in a tweet. Both constituencies are in Patiala district.

This happened after changes in party organisational structure.AAP had announced Ranjod Hadana as Sanaur constituency in-charge and former Akali leader Surjit Singh Rakhra in Samana. This sparked off talk of potential shifting of candidates.
Jouramajra had been removed from the state Cabinet in a reshuffle earlier, while Pathanmajra had come into the chief’s eye owing to his strained relationship with the party leadership.
Meanwhile, speculation is rife that the two leaders may join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, neither has officially confirmed joining another political party.
Their resignations have added to the political activity in Punjab as parties prepare for the 2027 Assembly elections.
