Over 58 lakh notices to be sent as Odisha intensifies electoral roll revision

Bhubaneswar: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is underway across Odisha, with the Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha, urging all eligible citizens to verify their details and submit claims or objections by August 4, 2026.

The CEO informed that over 58.36 lakh notices are being generated to verify discrepancies in voter records. So far, 57.98 lakh notices have been generated, 7.93 lakh delivered, and 1.42 lakh hearings completed, while more than 50 lakh notices are yet to be delivered.

Gopalan, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Odisha, said the exercise aims to prepare an accurate, transparent and error-free electoral roll ahead of future elections.

The schedule of Special Intensive Revision is as follows:

The period of filing claims and objection is currently underway in the State. In this context, Citizens are requested to verify their particulars in the draft electoral roll and submit any claims, objections, or requests for correction either through their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) or through voters.eci.gov.in portal or ECI NET App on or before August 4, 2026.

Those eligible electors, whose names are not available in the Draft E-Roll published on 5th July, 2026, they can apply for inclusion of their name in Electoral Roll by submitting Form-6 along with a declaration form to their BLOs during the period for filing claims and objections from July 5 to August 4, 2026.

To facilitate a comprehensive and error-free electoral roll, the following provisions have been made:

Citizens who have attained the age of 18 years as on July 1, 2026 may apply for enrolment as new voters by submitting Form-6 along with the prescribed declaration.

Form-7 may be used for deletion of names of deceased or otherwise ineligible persons from the electoral roll.

Existing electors may apply for correction of particulars or change of address through Form-8. In cases involving migration from another State, submission of a declaration along with Form-8 is mandatory.

All these application can be submitted online through voters.eci.gov.in portal or the ECINET App.

During the ongoing Notice / Disposal of Claims and Objection phase, Notices are being issued by the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) to electors whose particulars contain discrepancies or whose information submitted during enumeration does not match the details available in the 2002 Electoral Roll.

Upon receipt of such notice, the concerned elector may attend the hearing on the date, time, and venue fixed by the AERO and produce the documents approved by the Election Commission of India in support of his or her claim.   The electors can also submit the necessary documents by logging into voters.eci.gov.in portal.   The ERO/AERO shall also entertain hearing on video-call, wherever it is feasible to facilitate hassle-free experience for the voters.

Status of Notices issued and Hearing held:

To facilitate the hearing of electors belonging to vulnerable categories such as senior citizens, Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), sick and infirm persons, and residents of remote or inaccessible areas, such electors are generally not required to remain personally present during the hearing process.  Instead, BLOs will collect the necessary documents from their residences so that claims and objections can be disposed of in a convenient, accessible, and hassle-free manner.

Based on the documents and information obtained, the Electoral Registration Officer will determine the eligibility of the concerned voter, and accordingly, the final electoral roll will be published on September 6, 2026.

The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer has appealed to all eligible citizens to avail these facilities, participate in this democratic exercise, and contribute towards making the electoral roll accurate, transparent, and error-free.
