Army man kills 7th month pregnant wife in Maharashtra, stages it as accident

Mumbai: A 28-year-old Indian Army jawan has been arrested for allegedly strangling his seven-month-pregnant wife to death at his home in Maharashtra’s Washim.

The accused has been identified as Dnyaneshwar Madne, serves with the Army’s 6 Maratha Battalion.

As per police, Madne allegedly took his wife, Dipali, to a private hospital in an ambulance after the incident. She was later referred to a government hospital, where doctors noticed suspicious injury marks and alerted the police.

Senior police officer Manish Thakre said visible marks around the woman’s neck immediately raised suspicion.

According to the victim’s brother, Rahul Mane, the accused called the family around 3 pm on Thursday that his wife, Dipali, had fallen at home and had been admitted to a hospital. Dipali’s family, who live in Burhanpur district of neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, rushed to Washim and reached around 7 pm.

Dipali’s family has alleged that Madne was involved in an extra-marital relationship and had been harassing her over the issue for some time.

Her brother said tensions between the couple had escalated months ago, where both the families held a meeting in an attempt to resolve the dispute. Although the matter appeared to have been settled, the family alleged that the harassment continued.

Police said Madne was due to leave for Jammu and Kashmir the following day. After receiving the complaint from Dipali’s brother, officers arrested the Army jawan and booked his parents in connection with the case.

The investigation is underway.
